Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that ANU Library collections may include images, names, voices, and other representations of deceased persons.

Material in the collection may contain terms, language or views that reflect the period in which the item was created and may be considered inappropriate today.

Abstract

This dissertation is an attempt to measure systematically Australia public opinion as it relates to foreign policy. This measurement is taken over a considerable time span, generally speaking, the post-World War II era, but major emphasis has been given to the years between 1966 and 1972, with one chapter looking at the period after 1972. So, in a sense, the thesis concentrates on the period from the departure from the political scene of Sir Robert Menzies to the Prime Ministership of E.G. Whitlam.
