Theikpan Maung Wa ( 1899? – 1942) was a popular writer during the colonial period, who contributed to the establishment of the modern Burmese style of writing. Some of his works continue to be loved by Burmese readers today although he has often been criticised as he was a member of the Indian Civil Service, the most Anglicized elite in British Burma. Through researching his writings, I discovered he was a thinker, who seriously investigated the possibility of combining the democratic parliamentary system and Buddhism, which was the core of Myanmar’s traditional ethical valuesen_AU
