Subvirensic Acid, a New Depsidone from the Lichen Flavoparmelia haysomii

Abstract

The synthesis and structure of the depsidone subvirensic acid was reported. The compound was isolated from the extracts of the lichen, falvoparmelia haysomii and its structure was determined from a combination of spectroscopic data. The results revealed the presence of two C-methyl resonances, two singlets due to aromatic protons, an aldehyde proton and an intramolecularly bonded hydroxy group. The techniques used included thin layer and high-performance liquid chromatography, high resolution mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Show more
