Abstract
The synthesis and structure of the depsidone subvirensic acid was reported. The compound was isolated from the extracts of the lichen, falvoparmelia haysomii and its structure was determined from a combination of spectroscopic data. The results revealed the presence of two C-methyl resonances, two singlets due to aromatic protons, an aldehyde proton and an intramolecularly bonded hydroxy group. The techniques used included thin layer and high-performance liquid chromatography, high resolution mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
