Abstract
Schrodinger's famous thought experiment about a cat in a box
is included in almost all books and courses on quantum
mechanics, but is generally presented as a paradox without a
solution. This informal essay discusses the problem and suggests
that it is not really insoluble at all, but rather that it leads
to a common-sense interpretation of the 'real' meaning of the
quantum wavefunction.
