Abstract
In the context of radar and sonar systems, the potential of applying the techniques of echolocating mammals has not been tapped into until recently. Recent studies concentrate on the strategies employed by bats and consider how they might be exploitable in the radar systems of the future. Meanwhile, echolocating mammals are known to vary their waveforms via modification to the pulse-repetition frequency or pulse-repetition rate, power and frequency content of their transmitted waveforms. Nevertheless, technological advancements now enable the replication of mammal parametric variations in synthetic sensing systems like radar and sonar.
