Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Abstract

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) are controversial free online courses, designed to be taken by tens of thousands of students. I discuss why you might want to teach a MOOC, and share practical tips and tricks that I have learned in developing and teaching my four MOOCs to over 300,000 students. I provide an overview of the MOOC scene, how astronomy fits into it, and show data on the types of students who study MOOCs, and the very small fraction who actually complete a course.
