Spirit Possession and Diva Worship: Performance and Performativity in Queer Ritual Cultures Across Borders
Abstract
In modern social theory, religion and the ostensibly secular field of popular culture are typically seen as mutually exclusive, the former often being positioned as a site of residual pre-modern enchantment and the latter as a space dominated by the de-spiritualised operation of post-modern media appropriated for the purpose of marketing the products and services of capitalism.
