Abstract

This chapter presents a snapshot of geopolitical discourse in Tajikistan, based on fieldwork and interviews conducted in Dushanbe and Khujand in the autumn of 2009. It treats 'Mackinderian geopolitics' as the cumulative legacy of British, German, and American political geographers from the first half of the twentieth century informed by Halford Mackinders idea of the pivot/heartland.
