Abstract
The Way We Wear showcases the work of current staff and alumni of the ANU School of Art & Design. The works in this exhibition display clothing and fashion as object and artefact, extending ideas of the wearable into explorations of our preconceived notions of clothing and its function. These works reflect two of the School of Art & Design’s research clusters: Nature & Culture and Activism & Social Engagement. The selected works address ideas of wearable art through a variety of mediums from across the School’s eleven disciplines – with many artists taking an interdisciplinary approach. The selected artists are working in fields that draw on the power of clothing and accessories as universally recognisable items, to engage the viewer with contemporary issues of personal and global importance. The exhibition was held at the Embassy of Australia, Washington DC, 19 March - 21 June 2019
