We report on the observation of nonlinear diffraction and Cherenkov radiation via second-harmonic generation in two-dimensional nonlinear photonic structures with a short-range order of periodic poling. We discuss a theoretical model for describing this phenomenon and analyze the experimentally observed diffraction patterns and their polarization properties.
