International exhibitions

Abstract

More than the entire current population of Australia has visited major international exhibitions at Australian museums in the last 30 years. Australian museums, and in particular art museums, have been transformed by the advent of these international exhibitions. International 'blockbuster' exhibitions have created sophisticated and appreciative audiences. They have increased professionalism at every level in Australian museums, and created a paradigm shift in the way museums operate within their communities and public programming. Show more
