Abstract
Mental health has been a focus of over 200 journal articles using the HILDA Survey data.This brief review provides an overview of themental health data collected through the HILDASurvey, and discusses the potential reasonswhy HILDA Survey data have been used sofrequently in mental health research. We reflecton how the HILDA Survey data have: providedinsights into the profile of mental health in theAustralian community, illustrated the impor-tance of social ties for mental health andenabled investigation of social inequalities in mental health.
