Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the theory behind Bayesian networks (BNs) and their application to environmental and societal issues similar to those associated with Watershed Development (WSD) as well as previous applications using the sustainable livelihoods framework. It briefly describes the capital submodels and the integration of these submodels to model household resilience. A more in-depth discussion of the social capital BN is used to demonstrate how the submodels can be analyses and used to explore the influence of WSD on capital stocks in relation to other geographical and social variables.
