Abstract

Milpirri 2012 has developed out of a relationship between Lajamanu community and Tracks Dance Company which began in 1988. It draws together the strengths and hopes of the elders and youth in a spectacular dance performance with over 200 performers. It embraces and celebrates what it means to live with and upon this land. Pulyaranyi is a call to action. We have talked, we have listened, now we need to act. It is time to celebrate what it means to be living on this country - to be Australian. This is a one-night festival based on Warlpiri ceremonial law produced by Track Dance Company. It is directly funded by the Rio Tinto Aboriginal Fund, the Granites Mines Affected Areas Aboriginal Corporation, Newmont Asia Pacific, and the Lajamanu Progress Association. The festival's founder and Creative Director is Steven Wanta Jampijinpa Patrick.
