Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that ANU Library collections may include images, names, voices, and other representations of deceased persons.

Material in the collection may contain terms, language or views that reflect the period in which the item was created and may be considered inappropriate today.

Abstract

Before I discuss keywords for studying religion power and the self, I want to say something generally about the changing humanities in a changing world. A revolution is taking place that is having enormous impact on the humanities. I am referring to the creation, acquisition, storage, retrieval and dissemination of data and information by means of digital technology. Whole new fields of study in the sciences, the social sciences and the humanities have come into existence because of digital technology. This technology is redefining humanity itself. My personal conviction is that digital technology is changing the human species. We are far from understanding the revolutionary changes that are taking place.
