Abstract

Here is the beginning of the first chapter "And now pay attention!" the novel with an equally disturbing title narrated by the protagonist Janina Duzejko, an elderly English teacher. This lady lives in a provincial village in the Kłodzko Basin where she looks after vacation homes in winter. This 'old' woman who is close to death, as she describes herself, is full of spirit. Her linguistic obsessions, the capital letters applied to some terms, the nicknames with which she calls the inhabitants of the area makes for enjoyable reading
