U.S.-Japan Cooperation in the Pacific: 75 Years After the End of the Pacific War

Abstract

This year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. U.S.-Japan relations have come a long way since then. In her most recent article, Dr. Patricia O'Brien of Georgetown University's Asia Studies Program, examines the historical context of U.S. and Japanese policies in the Pacific. She discusses efforts to sustain peace in the rapidly changing security environment and provides policy recommendations. Dr. O'Brien concludes that the United States and Japan should expand their regional presence and align their geopolitical strategies with the priorities of Blue Pacific nations.
