Abstract

In the People's Republic of China (PRC), pre-trial detention centres (kanshousuo) detain criminal suspects prior to their trial, offenders whose remaining sentence is three months or less and criminal offenders sentenced to death and awaiting execution.For decades these institutions have been neglected by both public and academic debates on reform.
