Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate how to substantially improve the performance of a 1.5 T magnetic resonance imaging machine by employing the unique properties of ultrathin metasurface resonators. We fabricated a metasurface formed by an array of nonmagnetic metallic wires embedded in a high epsilon and low loss medium and investigated it in an in-vivo experiment. We observe significantly enhanced signal-to-noise ratio in the area of interest close to the metasurface by exciting particular eigenstates of the metasurface.
