Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that ANU Library collections may include images, names, voices, and other representations of deceased persons.

Material in the collection may contain terms, language or views that reflect the period in which the item was created and may be considered inappropriate today.

Abstract

Interest and activity in the open access space continues to escalate, bringing new challenges and opportunities for those implementing open access. This presentation will cover some of the big events in open access worldwide in 2013, and discuss the innovations in open access book publishing and the social media platforms incorporating open access. Publishers are responding in different ways to the new landscape, increasing the challenge of staying current and compliant. The issue of predatory publishing is also causing challenges for open access advocates. The talk will conclude with a summary of AOASG activities and their impacts to date.
