Abstract

An analytical approach based on the scalar diffraction theory is presented for design of blazed diffraction gratingsfor maximizing the light trapping in solar cells. The model provides a conceptual insight into the behaviour of blazed structures. The predictions of the analytical model are checked against numerical results obtained using the commercial FDTD modelling software. Within the limits of the scalar diffraction theory, this analytical approach can be used to design gratings with arbitrary shapes.
