Abstract
The Short Loan section in the J.B. Chifley Library Building
serves staff and students in the Faculties of Arts, Asian Studies,
Economics and Science. Although its collection represents only a very
small proportion of the total stock of the ANU Library system, it is viewed
by its users as a significant component of the University's library
service. During 1979, 39 percent of all loans from the Chifley Library
building were reported to be from Short Loan. In the same period,
academic staff submitted 793 lists of items for inclusion in Short
Loan. An effective Short Loan system, together with the availability
of text-books prescribed for a course unit, may well be a necessary
component of a teaching program and provide essential resources for
student learning in a course unit.
