Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that ANU Library collections may include images, names, voices, and other representations of deceased persons.

Material in the collection may contain terms, language or views that reflect the period in which the item was created and may be considered inappropriate today.

It has been an extraordinarily difficult task to come to any conclusion as to what accommodation should be provided for this residence, as it is practically certain that the accommodation which for instance would suit Mr Bruce would be in excess of what say Mr Charlton [ALP Member for Hunter, NSW, Leader of the Opposition] would require. On the other hand, it is felt that the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth should be housed in a private residence and not have to be subjected to the public life of an hotel and the continuous importunities which would inevitably follow, and this being admitted, it would appear that accommodation must be made available on the larger rather than on the smaller scale.en_AU
