Abstract
In a residency with the School of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, I worked with the Free Radicals lab in the Bio21 building. I used images of slides of paint samples across my work in order to tell the history of student activism and campus architecture at George Paton Gallery (the site of the exhibition) as a play on the term 'free radicals'. A digital projection and video monitor formed an abstract clock using the paint slides as numerals in order to refer to passing time and decomposition. I also produced two out of date calendars: one for 1975 representing the Union House building and one for 2005 representing the Bio21 building. These were gifted to the gallery and the chemistry lab after the exhibition, tying together their pasts and futures in a poetic way.
