The Basham Lecture 2000: India: A New Beginning

Abstract

Events, both domestic and international, have been momentous for India over the past decade, and have wrought changes that are yet to be fully played out both nationally and internationally. The Lecture will focus principally on the economic changes, and on some of their implications for India. A final section will review Australia’s bilateral relationship with India in the light of these changes and of related changes in Australia that began a decade earlier. It is argued that the dynamics of new interactions will form the basis for the strengthening and deepening of future linkages. Show more
