Abstract

A planar waveguide device is proposed and analysed that enables wavelength multiplexing and demultiplexing between the 1300 and 1550 nm telecommunications windows, based solely on the evolution of the fundamental mode through the geometrical design of the device. No coupling, grating or interference effects are required for its operation.
