Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that ANU Library collections may include images, names, voices, and other representations of deceased persons.

With an estimated 20,000 Australian Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel missing from twentieth‐century conflicts, the task of locating, identifying, and providing a burial for those that gave their lives for their country is a daunting task. A small group of specialists, trained in a diverse range of disciplines, from military history through to human osteology, work with the Australian Unrecovered War CasualtiesArmy unit to undertake this task. Case studies from a range of conflicts and situations illustrate the nature of the work.en_AU
