Abstract

This laboratory exercise investigates the phenomenon of cytoplasmic streaming in the fresh water alga Nitella. Students use the fungal toxin cytochalasin D, an inhibitor of actin polymerization, to investigate the mechanism of streaming. Students use simple statistical methods to analyze their data.
