The UNHCR and its mandate on refugee management: the case of Bangladeshi and Myanmar refugees

Abstract

This essay is a comparative study of Bangladeshi (former East Pakistani) refugees in India and Myanmar Refugees in Bangladesh, and an analysis of the activities of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), particularly during complex emergencies. It is also analyses the role of UNHCR as a humanitarian organisation, based on the criteria of its present mandate. It concludes by suggesting that the mandate should be updated. Show more
