Abstract

The world's installed photovoltaic capacity is steadily increasing. Growth in module production averaged about 14% per year in the 1990s. In 1997 production jumped 38% to reach a new record of 122 MW. There is an associated market for PV system components and installation. Continuing improvements in technology are bringing costs down and opening new markets. This market study analyses present world PV production, markets, manufacturers, and technology market share, and examines trends in these areas. The Australian PV industry is summarized.
