Abstract

A brief review is given of present understanding of the processes involved in the formation of ice crystals, concentrating on aspects likely to be of interest to metallurgists such as the nucleation behaviour of small particles, the effects of the surface topography of the nucleating substrate and the energetics of the interface between the substrate and the growing crystal.
