Critical elements for the assessment of forest management certification schemes : establishing comparability and equivalence amongst schemes

Abstract

This paper explores key elements of initiatives directed at establishing comparability and equivalence (including mutual recognition initiatives) amongst schemes for certification of forest management and labelling of forest products sourced from certified forests. It also proposes critical elements for comparability and equivalence, and provides a preliminary assessment of existing comparability and equivalence initiatives and certification schemes against these proposed critical elements.
