Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that ANU Library collections may include images, names, voices, and other representations of deceased persons.

Material in the collection may contain terms, language or views that reflect the period in which the item was created and may be considered inappropriate today.

Abstract

Produced for the State Library of NSW's "Digital Fellowship", Visionaries Explorer presents an innovative interface for Visionaries; a collection comprised of over 10902 digitised items representing events, characters and places of historical significance. The project's novel interface combines attributes of web design, graphic design and data visualisation. The different interface elements provide a unique overview of the collection and improve opportunities for access and exploration. The project also seeks to enliven the collection - to surface some of the rich visual character of the items held within each record. Ultimately, the project aims to support purposeful and strategic intent, as well as playful and serendipitous discovery.
