What Place for Scholars in the Academic Zoo?

Abstract

This little paper is a therefore a personal protest. Having known what it is to be an intellectual yeoman, freely giving of my labour, I do not wish to become an intellectual worker subject to petty monitoring and coercion. I do not wish to be industrialised and, in a post-industrial society, there is no reason to accept such a fate. As a scholar, I retain my curiosity, the habit of independent thought, and a passion for enlightenment.
