Abstract
The period between 1945 and 1949 following proclamation of independence
against Dutch colonial role witnessed a number of
turbulent movements around Indonesia. These 'social revolutions'
as they were known by their adherents, were movements from below
against local authorities occuring spontaneously in different
areas but without any coordination or direction between them,
In this article, the author describes two examples of 'social revolution'
which took place in Aceh and East Sumatra.
