Abstract

Labor venerates its heroes and maintains the rage towards enemies and turncoats. And it nurtures few doubts that its own story is central to the national story. Yet, paradoxically, history has not been on the party's side. Along with its undoubted successes and achievements, Labor's story has often been one of crisis and renewal. Some problems that the party faces today are unprecedented; others recall the challenges of the past.
