Abstract

This issue of Intellectual History Review is devoted to the study of conceptions of human nature in Europe during the long eighteenth century. It grew out of a 2010 conference at the Australian National University, ‘Thinking the Human in the Enlightenment Era’, at which contributors gathered to explore the complex and contested ways in which Europeans conceived human identity and human difference during this formative period.
