Abstract

This special issue of Protoplasma contains papers dedicated to Professor Brian E. S. Gunning, who celebrated his 65th birthday in November 1999. The papers arise from presentations made at a Robertson Symposium on Plant Cell Biology held in his honour in Canberra in February 2000. The Robertson Symposium brought together leading plant cell biologists from around the world, many of whom have been associated with Brian as students, colleagues, and friends during his career. The papers in this issue include comprehensive reviews as well as original research papers and most cover research areas in which Brian worked during his career.
