Abstract
Background
In Australia, rates of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) in all States and Territories have increased significantly since mid-2011, with rates of infection increasing faster in the community setting than within hospitals. Knowledge about the risk factors for CDI is essential to determine the risk of community outbreaks of CDI and to design interventions that reduce those risks.
