Abstract

The Mackey original, "Fingerprints", is an improvised melody based on the chord sequence of "Footprints" written by jazz legend and composer Wayne Shorter. The track is part of a six movement work that explores the art of creativity over a twelve bar form in a minor key. My improvisation is inspired by the saxophone legend John Coltrane who pioneered an approach to improvisation which is historically known as "sheets of sound". My improvisation reflects elements of this dense harmonic approach to improvisation and also explores the use of applying technology through the use of octavesand fourths intervals to add a seemingly layered effect.
