The calothrixins are quinone-based natural products isolated from Calothrix cyanobacteria which show potent antiproliferative properties against several cancer cell lines. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the biological mode of action of the calothrixins maybe linked to their ability to undergo redox cycling.
