Unlike the capillaries conventionally used for gas-based spectral broadening of ultrashort (<100 fs) multi-millijoule pulses, which produce only normal dispersion at usable pressure levels, hollow-core photonic crystal fibres provide pressure-adjustable normal or anomalous dispersion.
