Abstract

Children’s health has a significant impact on the wellbeing of children and their families. This chapter discusses health conditions and events experienced by LSIC Study Children using data from Wave 6. The chapter explores specific health conditions experienced by children in the past year, including dental conditions, ear problems, eye problems, skin conditions, developmental delay, disability, respiratory conditions and injuries. We then examine variation in the prevalence of these conditions by remoteness. We also examine hospitalisation related to these, and other, conditions. Finally we examine patterns of Study Children’s service use by remoteness, examining the type of health service accessed. Using additional data from Wave 4, we also report on the extent to which health care was needed but not accessed, and the reasons why services were not accessed
