Abstract

Energy has played an important role in the pursuit of equitable growth across countries in the modern society. While the role of energy in equitable economic growth has been well addressed in the literature, little attention has been paid to the question of how institutional reforms in the energy sector, such as energy market integration (EMI), may affect equitable growth. However, EMI has been actively pursued in East Asia, where equitable growth has been poorly addressed. Therefore, the impact of EMI on equitable growth is a real policy issue for many East Asian countries and the study of the impact may offer suggestions for these countries when making decisions on EMI.
