The Bethe ansatz is a particular form of wave function introduced in the diagonalization of the Heisenberg spin chain. It underpins the majority of exactly solved models in statistical mechanics and quantum field theory. At the heart of the Bethe ansatz is the way in which multibody interactions factor into two-body interactions. The Bethe ansatz is thus intimately entwined with the theory of integrability.en
