Abstract

Surface topography as one of the most influential factors in determining the complex processes of cell responses in tissue engineering has been widely investigated. This study explores contributions of pososity upon cold sprayed Ti-Ta composite to cell responses. In-vitro cell culture was firstly discussed the interaction of cells to the polished counterparts with a moderate porosity and with low porosity of Ti-Ta composites, respectively. The significantly enhanced cell growth rate on the polished surface of Ti-Ta composite with moderate porosity compared to the polished surfaces with low porosity was observed during the initial cell culture period (0.5 h; 1 h; 3 h and 6 h). This research indicates cold spray manufacturing could be utilized to produce porous structures with benefits to enhance the osseointegration for biomedical applications.
