Abstract

By way of introduction I would like to answer a question I have been asked by one or two people beforehand - why give a paper on the environmental impact statement in the Sociology Section of this Congress? One obvious answer is that there is no Environment Section in which such a paper might be given, and it is suggested in passing that there should be, in order to examine broader interdisciplinary questions than are encompassed by specific sections under the present disciplinary divisions.
