Abstract
Resilience is an important tourism research topic but it remains predominantly underexplored
in the area of entrepreneurial resilience. In particular, the drivers and mechanisms
underpinning how small tourism businesses develop resilience and whether they are capable
of sustaining resilience through different adversity types remain unchartered. Additionally,
linkages between the resilience of the entrepreneur and business resilience remain unclear.
Thus, by adopting a qualitative methodology, this working paper explores how small tourism
entrepreneurs develop resilience in Sri Lanka. Thus, the study uncovers the complex
mechanisms that could transform personal resilience into business resilience in small tourism
businesses. Findings will have implications for theory and practice.
