Abstract
The 10B(3He, d)11C reaction has been investigated over the energy range 3.5 to 10 MeV. Excitation functions for the ground state transitions were obtained at laboratory angles of 45°, 90°and 150°and detailed angular distributions were measured at bombarding energies of 3 7, 5 8, 7.5 and 9.8 MeV. The 150°excitation function shows a resonance at approximately 5 8 MeV, corresponding to an excitation of 26 MeV in the 13N system. This resonance, also observed in an earlier study of the 10B(3He, α)9B reaction, may be identified with giant resonance structure in 13N. A measurement of the total deuteron cross section by an activation method shows no evidence for the resonance. The (3He, d0) angular distributions indicate the reaction to be predominantly a direct process and they have been fitted successfully using a distorted wave Born approximation analysis. Only a stripping mechanism is necessary to explain the forward and backward peaking.
