Abstract

A cornerstone of the European jazz scene, Jazzfest Berlin reflects a rich history of innovation and evolution. From Joachim-Ernst Berendt’s visionary beginnings 1964 to Nadin Deventer’s dynamic, transformative leadership since 2018, the festival has continually pushed the boundaries of jazz programming. How the festival has navigated through different eras, adapting to changes in the cultural and social landscape while staying true to the spirit of jazz, is explored in this in-depth look at the festival’s artistic directors.
